Lucy's Thanksgiving and 21 Months

For Thanksgiving we got to go back to St. Louis.  Some highlights of our trip:

-playing with her cousins.  She loved this! She even asks where "Ki-en" is now, meaning her youngest cousin Keegan.

doing homework with the big girls

feeding the ducks with her cousins

-walking down memory lane(literally).  Lucy got to see lots of Mommy and Daddy's old hangouts and special places in STL this trip.  It was kind of surreal but also super special to share these with her.  We hit up the pond, the blacktop, the common grounds, the sewer and more.

at the pond in our old neighborhood

where Daddy proposed to Mommy

sewer sitting, our beloved childhood hangout spot

-eating of course!  Lucy tried a bit of EVERYTHING at our Thanksgiving meal.  Smoked fish, turkey, cranberries, spinach casserole, potatoes of all kinds, and stuffing.  She loved the pumpkin pie that Daddy and Madeline and Ellie made :)

-Getting to see all her friends and family.  She even said Aunt "Bear" for Blair for the first time.

-Falling head over heels in love with her grandparents.  Lucy would say their names (mostly, we are still working hard on Grammy!), run over to them and give them kisses, jump in their arms for hugs, play with them, be concerned when they left the room, and more.  This was such a cool thing to see her so into her grandparents, since she really does have the best ones a girl could ask for.

21 Months
Lucy also just turned 21 months and is nearing 2!  Here are some highlights of the month and what she's up to:

-saying so many words and funny phrases including:  "yuv you" (love you), "peas" (please), thank you, "wha appen" (what happened, and in a very concerned tone...this is her catchphrase now!), and much more.  She is starting to string more and more words together for sentences too.

-cutting down our Christmas tree!  Lucy got to go with us for the first time and it was awesome.  We had great 50 degree sunny weather in the foothills and no snow, so it was easy for all of us to maneuver.  It was one of my favorite memories we've made so far and we loved decorating with her too.  She now comes in the room and shouts "tree on!" if the lights are off.  She's in love with the tree and it is so cute.  She even helped place some ornaments on the tree by telling us "here" and pointing to where it should go.

-Breaking out her snow suit for the first time, for the measly .10 inches we got one day (we are seriously paying for this no snow thing later on!).  Let's just say strangers were chuckling at her in this outfit and mentioning 'Christmas Story' references.

-Lucy's Favorite things:  reading, playing ball, "swimming" in the bath tub, taking walks, the park, "Mi Mow" (which means Mickey mouse and he might be edging out the Melmo love).

We took some fun Fall photos and some good ones from our tree hunt/decorating.  We also caught some Lucy cuteness on video for you.  Check it all out here: 21 Months

Hope you're enjoying the season!

Lucy 20 Months and Happy Halloween!

We have exited the "teen" months and are on the road to having a 2 year old very soon, wow!

We had a great and low key Halloween, and little Lucy was the cutest owl I've ever seen.  Lucy came to my school again for the Halloween parties and was a little scared of all the commotion, but it was still fun.  We also went that weekend to the Colorado Railroad Museum's 'Trick or Treat Train' event.  We got to ride on the "spooky" train, get a couple pieces of candy, and walk around and see the trains.  It was not too busy and a nice way to slowly introduce Lucy into the craziness of Halloween.  (We still didn't make it out trick or treating this year.  Mostly because it would be dangerous for Mommy to have that much candy in our house...)

Other than that we've just been enjoying the weekends doing some fun activities, and watching Lucy grow and learn each day.  I'm so excited for the holidays coming up because she is at such a fun age.

Some highlights from the month:
Our favorite words Lucy says:  Hort (for Horton Hears a Who), tilla (tortilla, one of her favorite foods), whoa (which she shouts whenever she takes a big bite of food, or, has a big poop, haha), butt (not for the body part, but what she calls buttons), Bailey, GO (her new phrase for Bailey since she's been listening to us shout it for so long now...), help (which actually is really helpful and allows us to know what she needs), "ummm" (when making a hard decision between her coats in the morning.  Someone's been listening to Mommy.)

The other thing she does to try and stall nap time is point to all my facial features and say them over and over again while we are reading/rocking.  She also has Pop Pop and Pa Pa down, as well as Nee-na (Nana).  We are working on Grandma, or at least Grammy, before the holidays.  She is trying to repeat most all words we say to her now, which makes it all more fun.

Favorite songs:  MaNaMaNa, Lollipop, Rockin Robin, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Old MacDonald (but only if Daddy sings it, and the only animal he ever has is a "COW!"  She'll correct us if we try to broaden Old MacDonald's farm.), Shake Your Sillies Out, If You're Happy and You Know It.  She also is particular with her bed time songs.  Bryan and I sing different songs before she goes to bed, and she knows which one I should be singing, and which one Daddy should sing.  She will also let you know if it is the wrong song.  Ah, already so opinionated.
Favorite activities/toys: Walks. She is almost like Bailey now where if you say the word walk, you better mean it.  Otherwise between her shouting WALK and Bailey barking, you'll be out the door in a matter of minutes.  Opening doors and ringing the doorbell, especially at daycare.  Exploring new art stuff like play dough and paint.  Watching (and attempting) to help us while we are cooking.  She'll push the chair over and try to get right in the middle of it all.  Playing chase, especially when Daddy gets home from work.  Skyping.  Lucy really seems to understand the whole skype thing more now and is so much more interactive with it.  From hugging the screen to trying to feed whoever she's talking to, it's so fun to see her talk to her family and interact.  She also is loving the new baby at daycare, and was so sweet with her the other day at pickup.  She was pointing out all the body parts on the baby and then gave her a very gentle hug.  As soon as we pull in Val's driveway she shouts "iley" (for Riley) and "baby".  She loves her friends.

Favorite books:  "The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs", "Knuffle Bunny", and "Goodnight Gorilla".

Hope you had a great October!
Love,
The Finglands

19 Months, Fall is here!

After having our first dusting of snow this week, fall is definitely here to stay (and I'm worried winter is not going to be too far behind this year!).

We've been busy with work and lots of extra time spent enjoying fall activities around town.  I (Katie) was pretty slammed the month of September with photography class and starting a mural in our school's hallway that is set to be done Thanksgiving time.  Life is slightly calming down this October, but not too much!

The weather had been so nice we were enjoying all different fall activities--going to a veggie picking farm, fall festivals, evening strolls, seeing the aspens change colors, and more.  It is even more fun to enjoy and introduce Lucy to these things since she is so full of wonder and excitement about everything.

She has also been a talking machine these days.  Language explosion!  Her latest words include:
shake, cow, door, ice, truck, no, toast, turtle, chomp chomp (her alligator's name), chicken("chit chin"), pumpkin ("pump pa"), goat, tree, green ("geen"), blue, color, shoe on, that owl, more cheese, that potty, home, house, book, knock knock, bee, Riley ("Iley"--her friend from daycare), teeth, Pop-Pop (what she calls both her Poppe and Papa), Elmo ("Melmo"--after reading the monster book with him over and over and over), button ("butt"), toot (haha), Bailey.

She still loves singing and dancing.  Her 2 songs she "sings" are "Old McDonald" and "Shake Your Sillies".  She will sing the "eieio" part of Old McDonald and say some of the animal names.  She also says "shake, shake" when she wants you to "Shake Your Sillies Out".  Reading is still at the top of her list as well.  Lately she has been playing more and more with her baby doll by feeding her, trying to give her water from her sippy cup, and pretending she is sleeping.

The other big thing that has started is the "no" phase.  She will say no to pretty much any question you ask her at the moment, so it pretty much means "yes".  She's still going on the potty, but she isn't liking it at much as she used to.  We think she likes playing more than going up to the bathroom now.  The potty has lost some of its magic.

We had some great pictures of her this month so enjoy those here:
We're still trying to get her talking on video, but she has been camera shy.

Hope you all are well.  Enjoy the fall!
Love,
The Finglands

Happy 1/2 Birthday! 18 Months!

Somehow time has managed to fly by again and we just celebrated Lucy's 1/2 birthday over Labor Day weekend.  Our now 18 month old is bursting with personality, chatting up a storm, and makes us count our blessings every time we look at her.

Lucy was a champ at her 18 month check up.  She got 2 shots, made an annoyed sound, then picked her purse up and walked out of the office waving to everyone.  The doctor said she is "off the charts" developmentally and she now weights 21 lbs. 14 oz (15th percentile) and 32 inches tall (60th percentile).  Someone got her Daddy's genes!  It looks like her molars are coming in too, so we are keeping an eye out for teething crankiness.  It was a short and sweet visit and can't believe the next time we go back she'll be 2!

This month had a ton of new firsts for Lucy.  Starting in mid August, Lucy had seemed to take interest in the potty (that's what happens when you have to take her with you when there is no bathroom on the main level!).  Bryan and I talked and said, what the heck, let's just get her a seat and try it for the fun of it.  Well, what do you know.  Someone pooped and peed on the toilet with the first 2 days of trying it out!  We were amazed!  Over the past couple of weeks she has gotten way quicker and smarter about it.  She's even started to ask to go now.  She has her 2 books she reads while doing her business and then she's good to go.  Cloth diapering is easier than ever now! ;)

This month has also been a language explosion!  Her new words include: (sorry I'm writing these down so we/her can later look back on them, you can skip reading and we won't be offended) color, car, owl, eat, hot, out, teeth, whoa, pee, go, bath, DADDY (finally!), this, that, yum, book, duck, walk, eye, ball, bye, hi, water, uh oh, stroller, boom.  She also makes numerous animal sounds/gestures, and can point out body parts too.

18 Month Likes:  Animals galore!  Lucy gets so excited when she sees animals, or pictures of them.  We were at the grocery store and pulled up in the dairy aisle.  You would have thought the place was on fire or something because she started shrieking and carrying on this VERY loud and excited conversation with me.  I didn't realize what was happening until I looked up and saw all the milk cartons had cows on them.  It's the little things sometimes.  She also loves taking walks and playing in the various creeks around town, as well as pointing to every and any airplane she hears in the skies. Reading is still one of her favorite activities.  Her favorite book of the moment is "Horton Hears a Who", with "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear" a close second.  A new favorite pastime that I am extremely enjoying is how much she wants to help now.  From feeding Bailey, to wiping off chairs and tables, to throwing trash away, she's a big help around the house (even though sometimes these activities can create bigger messes...).

As our summer ended, Lucy was also lucky enough to have both sets of grandparents visit back to back.  Her stranger danger is seeming to wear off, and she just showed off her cuteness for both Grandma and Papa, and Nana and Poppe.  She got to do fun things with them such as going to the park, walks, gymnastics class, Taste of Colorado, playing in the creek, and going out to eat.  It was great to see her cuddle and laugh with them and they are missed dearly around here!  Along with saying goodbye to them and our summer, we also had to let Blair go back to STL.  Lucy (and us) loved having her here and we miss her so much already!  We got to video chat with her today though and Lucy was hugging the Ipad and trying to feed Blair her apples through it.

We had a great summer and are looking forward to all the fun things to do with Lucy now that Fall is starting.  It's already getting cool at night and we LOVE it!

Hope everyone had a great end to their summer!  Check out Lucy's photos from this month here:  https://picasaweb.google.com/101238607047988694288/20120903Lucy18Months?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPucxaeK1s-SsAE&feat=directlink

17 Months

Turning 17 Months...

Wow, we can't believe Lucy is almost a year and a half old.  It is flying by!  I posted all about our summer here, so you can click over there to see a recap, photos, and links to the summer photo album.

As far as our big girl, here's what's new around here:
*Counting...sort of.  Lucy is repeating numbers after us and, although they aren't necessarily in numerical order yet.  So far though I did hear her count to 3! You just have to be able to translate Lucy-speak.
*New teeth:  Lucy has a new tooth in the back on the right side, that we didn't realize she had until we were tickling her one day and her mouth was wide open from laughing.  I think she's working on a molar now too.
*No more pacifier!  Lucy used to take a pacifier at nap and bed times, and we stopped cold turkey near the end of July.  Although she gets a little cranky at naps sometimes without it at first, she's been doing great!  She compensates now by holding her blanket, owl, alligator, and bunny while we read a story and then she goes to bed with her zoo.
*New words: "ew", "poop" (do we see a theme...), "B! and then clicks her tongue to call Bailey
*New actions:  throwing trash in the trash can (I could get used to this!), dragging around Bailey's leash and trying to walk Bailey on the leash, sweeping, hiding things and using her arms to say "where did it go?".

Favorites lists:
*Favorite songs:  ABC's, any song I can think of in the car (she will say "more" and I end up singing the whole way home.

*Favorite books:  "Horton Hears a Who" (we started a different bedtime routine with a book instead of just telling her a story.  She is so cuddly and attentive and we can read long books and not just board books during this time--quite refreshing!), "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "You are my Work of Art", "Make Van Gogh's Bed", "Head to Toe" and "A Beautiful Oops".

*Favorite toys:  Lucy loves playing with her new kitchen, dishes, and food.  She also has been into anything that has a loop so she can put it on hers arm (sports bras, purses, leashes, bags, you name it, she'll walk around the house with it), stuffed animals, and books.

Lucy got to spend a weekend with Daddy when Mommy went on a girls trip, and had lots of fun playing in forts, at the park, and reading with Daddy.  We got her free book and prizes for finishing her summer reading club at the library too.  She also tried painting at home with Mommy, but wasn't quite sure about having it all over her fingers.  This past weekend we went to something called "Tots in Action" at our rec center, and is an open gym for younger ages.  There was a balance beam, mats, ramps, trampolines, and more.  Lucy absolutely loved it, and I can't wait to take her back!  We've been having a lot of fun here the past month, and just soaking up the last bits of summer.  I start school this week, and will miss hanging out with her all week long!

Here's some 17 Month old photos for you:  https://picasaweb.google.com/101238607047988694288/2012073117Months?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPiF-P3GocCmmwE&feat=directlink

Enjoy!

Summer 2012

Lucy's Top Ten List of Summer 2012:

10.  Becoming a water baby!  From her first dip (and going under) in Florida, to trying out some local pools around town, Lucy has loved the water and the fountains.  She also loved running outside in the rain (that one time when it actually rained in July).

9.  Vacations!  Lucy headed to Florida for the first time in June.  She loved the sand and the ocean, and could play all day there.  Mommy and Daddy loved being there too, and it made it even more fun to be with all her cousins and Morrell family!  We also headed to St. Louis in July where she got in some family and friends time, and learned how to say "hot" in sign language.  That's what humidity will do for you though.

8.  Musician in progress.  Lucy and Mommy took a music class over the summer and it was lots of fun to have something new and different to go to weekly.  Lucy got to play drums, shakers, sticks, and learn some new songs and dances.  She was the observer of the class but did great and seemed to enjoy it.  Mostly she would learn the stuff there though, and then start doing all the moves at home!

7.  Ice cream.  Lucy got to try out Ted Drewes for the first time in St. Louis, and ate every last bite, cone and all.  She of course frequented Sweet Action here in Denver, and even has a new Sweet Action sticker on her sippy cup so she can represent.

6.  Children's Museum.  We went to the Children's Museum for the first time at the end of July.  Lucy loved all the things you could climb on/in/through.  She especially liked the art area, which was Mommy's favorite too.  She dressed up like a vet, climbing in/on pretend trees and bridges, painted and colored, danced with scarves, splashed in water, and ran after birds.  Overall, a pretty fun and successful trip!
5.  Parks, Puppets, and more.  Lucy loved exploring different parks this summer with Mommy during the week, and meeting up with her friends there sometimes too.  We went to a park that had an outdoor puppet show/concert for kids and a creek recently, and she loved both.  She loves running down paths and through fields and exploring her new surroundings.

4.  Bonding with Bailey and Aunt Blair.  Since we're at home over the summer, Lucy has found a new best friend--Bailey.  From giving Bailey kisses and hugs, to laying and climbing on her, Lucy has a forever furry friend.  Bailey has been much better around her over the past months, and is finally accepting she's here to stay.  I think she is liking Lucy even more now because the new trend is for Lucy to pull out Baileys leash, which means we usually then have to take a walk. Lucy also has had the privilege of having her Aunt Blair live with us all summer long.  Bryan and I often get brushed to the side while Blair will get a running hug and kiss from Lucy.  It's so great to see Lucy with her and how much she loves her Aunt, especially since we don't get to see our family on a regular basis.  It will be a sad day when Blair goes back to St. Louis!
3.  The zoo, zoo, zoo!  Lucy absolutely loved when we took her to the zoo for the first time here in Denver.  We got to go out to breakfast and then head over there, where she shouted "dog" at the elephant multiple times.  She couldn't stop babbling on about the animals and pointing to all she could see.  We even got to go to the St. Louis zoo as well, and she loved seeing the chimpanzees, penguins, and big cats!
2.  Becoming the next Picasso, Monet, O'Keefe, (insert your favorite artist here).  Much to Mommy's delight, Lucy LOVES art.  She colors at least once a day, and has a super grasp on that crayon that some of  my Kindergarteners don't even have down yet.  (Ok, I'm a little proud, sorry!).  She loved painting with the easels at the Children's Museum too.  I tried making some finger paints at home for her, but she didn't necessarily love having it all over her hands.  She much prefers the brush right now.  Bryan thinks her favorite color is purple, since that is the go to crayon at the moment.  I'm cool with that, it could be worse like pink or something ;).  Whatever color she chooses, it makes me so happy to see her so into her art.

1.  Gearing up for the Olympics.  Lucy has shown this past summer that she loves being on the move and being active.  She loved being at the open gym with all the different equipment, and loves all the rock climbing walls at the parks.  She even has various speeds now with her walking skills, and often takes off into a run while laughing.

Wow, what a great summer we had!  I feel blessed to have that time to spend at home with Lucy, and to be able to do all these activities she loves with her.  It is so fun to try new things with her, and Bryan and I hope to keep doing more on the weekends with her now that school will be starting up soon! Be sure to check out even more summer fun pictures in the summer 2012 album too:  https://picasaweb.google.com/101238607047988694288/201208SummerFun?authkey=Gv1sRgCKzRnvKak6zZCA

Hope your summer was great also!

16 Months and Lucy in the Lou

Sorry for the delay!  We went out of town to St. Louis right after Lucy turned 16 months.  Here's a recap of both.

Lucy at a glance:
16 Month Likes: coloring all day long, playing with paint chips from Lowe's, dancing, playing hide/seek, reading, climbing on all furniture/playgrounds, giving kisses and hugs, babbling with her pointer finger out to give instructions to all dogs, stuffed animals, dogs, going on walks, going to her music class, running her tongue over her 2 new front teeth, walking around with her purse on, sitting on steps, throwing things, eating whatever you are eating/drinking.
16 Month Dislikes:  ear infections and yucky tasting antibiotics, getting her face/hands cleaned after eating, sitting the proper way in her stroller.

Favorite Songs:  "Baby" by Justin Bieber--and yes she tries to sing along.  This happened because I was singing it at 5am on the way to the airport in Florida, and she loved it and kept wanting more! "I Shake My Thumb" (from music class),Patty Cake, and any radio song that has a good beat.  I've been hesitant with the kids music because Bryan and I both go stir crazy with it, but have recently found some great Pandora "family" stations that we all can enjoy without having to have Lucy dance to "I'm Sexy and I Know It" (however, when it comes on in the car and you see her bouncing in her car seat, it is quite funny).  We've also been taking a music class and learning some new dances, playing with instruments, and singing.

Word/Signs List:  signs for: more, alligator, hot, all gone, water/drink, up, kisses.  chats up a storm with:  mommy, doggie, daddy (when she feels like not calling him mommy), uh-oh, baby (thanks Bieber). go, here, more, boo, cheese, shoes (which both end up sounding like chssssssss).

Favorite Story of the Month: While eating one day, I was making faces at Lucy and she was cracking up.  I finally would do a "serious face" then laugh, back/forth.  Lucy tried it out too and loved it.  Now, Lucy has her own "serious face" and will do it whenever she hears you say "serious".  In fact, I was in conversation with my parents and said "seriously", then looked down and Lucy was making her face.  She's smart that one :)  Oh, and luckily I caught some pictures and video of it so you can enjoy too.

She had a good time with her family in St. Louis, despite getting a bad ear infection.  She was out for at least 3 days of not wanting to eat, play, or get off of mommy's lap, which was a bummer.  Unfortunately we also lost her stuffed alligator from Florida that she sleeps with while running to catch our early 6am flight in Denver, but thankfully the St. Louis zoo had the same one (only smaller).  A good trip overall and we are excited for some more visitors in Denver soon!
We also finished a couple projects we've been doing around the house, some for Lucy, so I decided to start posting those on here too every once in a while.  Hopefully I'll get some of those going and some more random posts of summer events with our family that we've been up to along the way.  New pictures from our trip and the past month are posted too, enjoy!

Lots of love and hope you're enjoying the summer,
Finglands

First Beach Trip!

We headed to the beach this past week for Lucy's first sandy trip!  Overall, she absolutely loved it!  She tried running to the ocean many times, and spent hours digging in the sand.  We spent the week in Carillon Beach, Florida (near Panama City Beach) with my side of the family.  3 Aunts, 3 Uncles, 8 cousins, and Nana and Poppe played and relaxed with us beach side.  It was a great time and we look forward to the next one!

Lucy's Beach/Vacation Likes:  snack time at the beach, running into the ocean then running out again, giving out kissies to all who saw her making the infamous kissy lips, digging in the sand, tasting the saltwater, pointing to the birds flying and shouting "dog" (we need to brush up on her animal vocab), coloring (especially in the airport/airplane), splashing at the pool and going under, playing ball, sleeping in the bathroom (yes, Lucy's crib was set up in our large bathroom--due to the darkness and exhaust fan as white noise!), playing with her cousins, and rice and beans--she ate them all week long.  Looks like someone wants a burrito bowl next time we hit up Chipotle.
 lounging

digging in the sand

Lucy's Beach/Vacation Dislikes: putting on sunscreen (though a major necessity for our fair skinned lady), too many new faces at once--although she warmed up pretty easily when there were smaller groups, when the stewardesses made her put her tray table upright and locked during landing/taking off,  not having Bailey around to clean up her food messes--or wait, that was Bryan and I.
Einstein hair trying to avoid getting her sunscreen rubbed in

The last day we were there, Friday, Lucy started pulling on her ears.  Unfortunately as time went on and we traveled home, it got worse and now she is nursing a double ear infection.  But it was a great trip and she is on some medicine and on the mend.  Hope the summer is going well for all of you!

15 Months

It seems that this month Lucy has grown up in a flash.  She started doing so many new (and adorable) things, and she seems so big now.  This month she's been a little cranky, trying to get those two front teeth in, but she's still our favorite girl to be around.

15 Month Fill in the Blanks:
-Mommy's favorite things Lucy has done this month are give high fives and DANCE!

-Daddy's favorite things Lucy has done this month are pucker up for kissies and make the 'more' sign.

-The words on the street this month are dog, doggie, Mommy (even Daddy gets called this at the moment), Bay-ee (Bailey), and waving hi/bye.  She also communicates with some signs she/we have created on our own, including a chomping hand motion for the word alligator--you know, a very important word to have in your vocab!

-Bailey's favorite thing Lucy has done this month is not listen to her parents by throwing food at me/the ground.

-Lucy kicked off her summer this Memorial Weekend by going on her first hike on South Table Mountain, exploring the Butterfly Pavilion, and hanging out with her Unruh boyfriends and Mommy and Daddy's friends at a BBQ.

-Lucy wishes that watermelon was served at every meal, that she could always play outside, and that Bailey really listened to her when she points and shouts jibberish commands at her.

-Mommy and Daddy wish they could bottle up Lucy's squeal and laughter that comes with playing chase, making funny faces, and being tickled.

-Lucy was caught being 15 months going on 15 years when she was kissing Logan all day at daycare, she throws her fit at not getting her way, and drives her new toy car.

She is an absolute joy to have around, and we are so blessed to have this funny, clever, opinionated girl in our lives!  She knows what she wants and goes for it.  Even if that includes fake coughing so we know she needs a drink of water (who needs sign language, she's creating her own stuff!)  We love her beyond words can describe, and I am so excited for this summer and new adventures with her!

14 Months

Hello all!  Here's what's new around the Fingland house.

14 Month Firsts:  first walking wound, a 4th bottom tooth (still none up top though), new "words"--'doggie', 'Bry' (oops, sorry Daddy, she's been listening to me call you too much!), 'hi', 'shoes', and 'ok'; starting to feed herself with her spoon even if she's a bit messy, nodding her head 'yes' (it's adorable), pointing out face features (she has nose and cheek down), saying "shhh" and putting her finger on her lips when we try to sneak downstairs to get Bailey out of her crate, and understanding and responding to questions we ask her (gets a book when we ask, helps us close doors, etc.)

14 Month Likes:  reading (favorite books this month include "Moo Baa La La La" and "The Monster at the End of This Book"), playing in her new toy car we picked up at a garage sale--she's obsessed with these at daycare,  pointing/looking at flowers, being outside, taking walks, helping with everything we're doing--she's one busy girl!

The past month has been so much fun.  Lucy is at such a great age where she is exploring everything and loving life.  She is so full of joy and an adventurous big girl.  While her personality is happy and bright, she still has her moments.  She has learned (who knows from where) how to start throwing some tantrums.  Her favorite moves:  arms in the air going stiff as a board so it's hard to pick her up, stomping her feet, and trying to run away from us if we are going to take her up to bed or change her diaper or make her stop doing whatever she's doing!  It is really hard not to laugh at her while trying to tell her no, since she scrunches up her face and puts that cute smile on--all the while doing the behavior we're trying to stop her from doing.

Enjoy the new pictures.  Sorry for the lack of pictures this month, but we did have more videos so you can watch her cuteness in action.
Love,
The Finglands

13 Months and Lucy's Easter!

Happy Spring!

We've been busy lately chasing around our walking 1 year old. The past month has been lots of fun, especially since we have been showered with an early and beautiful Spring. (March is usually our snowiest month!)

13 Month old firsts: Lucy started walking right after her 1st birthday, even though she was taking a few steps before then. It seemed to click and she has been getting better everyday. Also, now that she is a year old, she can eat everything! And she loves everything! She did have an allergic reaction to strawberries though, so we have to wait a while until she can try those again. After her first birthday, we got rid of all bottles and started the hunt for the perfect sippy cup. Although she will finally drink from 2 of them (she did go on a drink strike for a while), she still won't drink milk from them. Our doctor is ok with it though, as long as she eats well--and boy does she! She has a new favorite word..."OK" and loves repeating it over and over again, but we still think it's adorable every time. She's still repeating sounds and thinks it's funny when we whisper to her. We have alphabet flashcards and she has tried making the s sound for snake and the z sound for zebra. It's too cute to watch her tounge as she does the sounds. Finally, Lucy got her 3rd tooth while hanging out with me over Spring Break.

13 Month Likes/Dislikes: Lucy loves taking walks, especially while holding your hand. She also loves trying to go up stairs like a normal person, with the help of your hand though. Playing at the park is a staple every weekend, and we are lucky to have a cool park really close by the house. She has mastered going down the slide by herself now. Another like, EATING. I really cannot stress enough how much this girl eats...growth spurt maybe? Walking/trying to run after Bailey and doing laps around the house all while squealing, wearing her new shoes, singing, and brushing her teeth are all likes at this time as well. Dislikes? When we stop her from doing all of the above. She's getting better at telling us what she doesn't like!

Happy Easter! Lucy had a fun visitor for Easter besides the Easter bunny--Aunt Blair! We had lots of fun going to church, having an Easter egg hunt in the front yard, discovering her Easter basket, brunch, and the park and ice cream in the afternoon! It was a beautiful and blessed day and we were glad we all got to spend it together and that Aunt Blair could join us.

Sorry for the delay on this post! I added some videos to this month's photo album to make it up to you. Enjoy: 13 Month Album
Love,
The Finglands
